The fallout from France's World Cup campaign continues with president Nicolas Sarkozy offering his first view after an internal enquiry: "Sack those in charge."

The man running France demanded Thierry Henry appear before him to explain why some of the squad refused to train or play after sulking striker Nicolas Anelka was sent home.

Sarkozy said during a television interview on French TV: "The image shown by the French team in South Africa? Disastrous. I said: 'Those in charge must go'.

"They are gone, let's not heap abuse on them. The players shouldn't get bonuses. They didn't."
Coach Raymond Domenech has been replaced by Laurent Blanc, who has promised a new regime.
