Jubilee House, not safe enough for Presidency - Nunoo Mensah
By Samuel Osei/citifmonline.com | Fri 02nd October, 2009 14:35 GMT
The Golden Jubilee House

The National Security Advisor to the President, Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah (RTD) says the newly constructed seat of Government; the Golden Jubilee House is not safe enough to serve as the seat of government.

The magnificent edifice constructed by the erstwhile Kufuor administration was reportedly built without facilities for security officials.

A blunder General Nunoo Mensah describes as an unpardonable aberration on the part of those who conceived the idea.

The NDC Government disclosed on Thursday, October 1, that an additional $ 35 million is required to build a residential facility for security officials at the palace due to the failure of the Kufuor government to build one.

In an exclusive interview with Citi News, General Nunoo Mensah said the Golden Jubilee House is not an ideal place for President Mills to occupy.

He contends that the Christanborg Castle, which currently serves as the seat of government is more appropriate to serve as the seat of government because it provides adequate security for the president.

“In my personal view, I will prefer the castle to be the seat of government.

"The castle on one side has the Atlantic Ocean which provides ample security for the President…It is well protected as well as the fact that it is a very quiet place as opposed to the new presidential palace which is right in the middle of Accra with all the traffic built up in the area. My view is that it’s not ideal." He said

The National Security advisor added that “the main office of the President, located by the roadside is not secure. It should have been hidden inside the property and not to be seen from the road as you drive along.”

He is however of the opinion that since the nation  has already  spent money on the construction of the palace, “ we have to find a way of dealing with the problem and use it.”.

Oh Ghana
Why did NDC government come into power anyway. I think they came to continue whatever that was not completed. So if it has been realised that, a place for security was not built, I dont think this is a big deal, build one and go live in there, if this is the only reason, please! I am not a politician but I think what am saying makes some sense.

Nunoo Mensah reasons wrongly
Fact is, he was never elected and has never stood for elected office so he doesn't value the stake of people in this whole enterprise. As writers previously mentioned, Downing Street and even the world's most powerful president live bang in the center of town. In fact, the White House organises tours of the House while the President in in residence and is never a threat to the president because they know a thing or two about security whereas "security-ideas" bankrupt Nunoo Mensah doesn't have a clue. Having a background in the military doesn't of course make you a security expert and here is a case in point. Mills lives in a slave castle which can at anytime be overcome by waves as water levels are definitely rising and this man, supposed to be security adviser tells us that one is safer than Jubilee House? I think I can do a better job than the current crop of leaders, so guess what, I will chip in. Ah??

jubilee the garden apartment
yes this jubilee house is smacked right in the middle of the community. at lest Buckingham palace is a community by it self. Its farther away from the street and it is one walled house. jubilee is spread out like garden apartments. anyone can throw a bomb easily on to the grounds. What was npp thinking? It is a wasted effort.

Not really
I think its very wrong for this man to think that the presidential castle needs to be hidden. Helloooooo, arent seats of governments all over the world in public places? I also think its also not right for him to say "in his personal opinion/preference". Its not his personal opinion/preference so he needs to get over it!
