The Member of Parliament for Bawku, Hon. Adamu Daramani Sakande has told Citi News that though he has won the appeal in a civil suit brought against him by a cattle dealer challenging his legitimacy as MP, he does not feel elated about the outcome.
The Bawku MP said there is nothing to rejoice over. He said he knew he would sail through the trial as he had done nothing wrong.
According to the Hon Adamu Daramani, its unfortunate this whole incident happened though he wished it had not been the case.
“There is nothing to be triumphant about because I believe in my heart this should never at happened… a young Northern Ghanaian sacrificing and leaving my family to contribute to the political process to help my country and having to go through all this unnecessary dissections that distracted me from getting to duty job and doing the right thing for the people, this was a disservice to the people of Ghana.”
The MP won the case on Thursday, March 18. The Court of Appeal gave a unanimous judgment, throwing out Mr. Sumaila Biel Biel’s suit.
The Cattle dealer filed the suit against Mr. Dramani at a High Court but the Appeals Court has no jurisdiction over the matter since Mr. Biel Biel filed the case through a suit rather than a petition.
Egbert Failbille Jnr , the Lawyer for Hon. Adamu Dramani told Citi News that the writ was unmeritorious.
“The writ in court is unmeritorious and it has been set aside for wrong procedure more particularly when they should have began the action by way of election petition which should have been filed within 21 days after election 2008 results.
By this effectively, there is no case against the Bawku MP in respect of all the civil cases even pending at the court.”
