A former Minister for Tourism under the erstwhile NPP administration, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey has attacked the Mills administration, calling the eleven month old government as a tragedy to the country.

“The budget has been read and there is nothing new in it, promises that they can not be fulfilled, policies and programmes such as the national health insurance scheme, school feeding programme, among others initiated under Ex President John Agyekum Kufuor have been put at risk”, he said.

He said the NDC has failed to initiate good economic policies contrary to the expectations of many Ghanaians leading to the gradual weakening of the country’s economy.

Speaking in an interview with Citi FM, the aspiring National Chairman of the NPP stressed that the past 11 months have exposed the incompetence of the NDC administration, insisting that Ghana is grinding to a halt under the Presidency of President John Mills.

He noted that Ghanaians have clearly seen the difference between the NPP and the NDC government, therefore it is vital for the NPP to come to power in 2012 to rescue Ghanaians form the hardship being meted out on them.

Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey said that the NPP government met a similar story when it came to power in 2001 but Mr. Kufuor demonstrated quality leadership in dealing with the problems.

He said at the time that crude was being sold for $140 dollars per barrel the erstwhile Kufuor government was able to maintain growth at 7.3%. He added that ex president Kufuor’s 8years in power was excellent despite the global recession during his last year in power.

Jake Okanta obetsebi Lamptey, challenged President Mills to solve the problems that Ghanaians are encountering rather than giving excuses for his government’s tragic performance and non-delivery and stop shifting blames on the NPP government.

He expressed optimism that the NPP would win power in 2012 “since we have done it before in opposition and we are going to do it again.”
