Ghana has been drawn in Group B in what seems to be the group of death in next year’s Cup of Nations tournament in Angola.
The Black Stars have been drawn alongside West African neighbours, Ivory Coast, Togo and Burkina Faso.
The confederations of Africa football supervised the draw in Luanda on Friday, November 20.
In the other groups, host nation Angola was drawn in the same group with Mali, Algeria and Malawi in Group A While Egypt, Mozambique, Benin and Nigeria also found themselves in group C.
Cameroon, Gabon, Zambia and Tunisia completed the pairings in Group D.
Angola will take on Mali in the opening game of the tournament on January 10, 2010.
Meanwhile the coach of the Black Stars Milovan Rajevac has rubbished claims that the Ivory Coast could thwart Ghana’s quest to annex the African Cup trophy for the fifth time.
He told Citi Sports in an exclusive interview moments after the draw that he was not scared of any of the teams in Ghana’s group although he is cautious not to underestimate the might of any of the teams.
The Serbian however admitted that the Ivory Coast could pose the greatest threat for Ghana in next year’s competition.
“On paper, the Ivory Coast is the tougher side, of course but there is no easy opponents now, these are the best African countries in the tournament and we need to approach each much seriously…we need to prepare and we need to play, so there is no reason to be afraid of any team.” He said.
Coach Milovan Rajevac has also promised Ghanaians that the Black Stars will be one of the two teams to qualify from Group B.
“We need to be among the two teams, we are positive that is going to happen…Preparing our team is the most important thing now” He said.
