Key stakeholders in the country’s ICT industry have reiterated the importance of the internet as the next level of doing business in the country.

They described the internet as the widest platform on which businesses and individuals can advertise or distribute their goods and services at the fastest rate to reach their desired targets.

These thoughts were expressed by the Managing Director of Rancard Solutions, Kofi Dadzie, and Marketing Director for i-basis in the Africa Region, Mawuli Tse - two of the key speakers of CITI FM’s INTERNET BANDWIDTH Conference coming off later today, May 06 at the Kofi Annan Centre for Excellence in ICT.

The conference is to create the platform for an objective and well-informed discussion on issues related to internet bandwidth as a way forward in increasing internet penetration and access.

In an interview on CITI FM, Kofi Dadzie stressed the need for local businesses to recognize the speed at which the internet is transforming businesses around the world and also harness it.

According to him “whether  it is advertising or distributing the products you have or carrying out transaction be it financial or otherwise, access to the internet, reliable access to the internet and cheap access to the internet are all fundamental to enabling business in today’s information age.”

He added that “both business people, consumers as well as government and other organizations should be very concerned as to the impact of developing the internet industry in Ghana and any debate which is going to focus on that in highlight what is important and what is going to happening and how people need to position should be one that I imagine people would want to pay attention to.”

The Marketing Director for i-basis in the Africa Region, Mawuli Tse is also one of the speakers of today’s CITI FM INTERNET BANDWIDTH Conference added his voice.

He said “very soon everybody will be on the internet because all technologies in terms of communication technology are moving… what people call converging, everything is moving towards internet type technology so people should come to understand the issue, once you understand the issues then you know what it means to you.”

“People should come to demand their rights… I think the right to decent internet service is going to become if it is not already a very fundamental one.” He added.

Other key speakers for today’s event include Country Director of Zain, Phillip Sowah, External Affairs Manger of Vodafone Ghana, Paul Ryan and Dorothy Gordon of the Kofi Annan Centre for Excellence in ICT.

Among the topical issues to be discussed are the regulatory and policy issues, bridging the mobile internet gap and internet and business among others especially against the backdrop of high cost and poor internet-service in the country.

Today’s conference organized in collaboration with Google Ghana forms part of the CITI BUSINESS FOCUS series which begun with that on Ghana’s Interest Rates Regime in Mid March.
