Deputy Minister of Energy

The Energy Ministry said it is to give a special attention to the exploitation of gas in the oil and gas find for maximum economic benefits to the country.

This, according to the ministry is mainly under-lied in the huge economic prospects of gas to the country’s industrialization agenda which has rather erroneously been overshadowed by the more popular oil.

The major benefits, the ministry outlined include mainly its use in power generation for both public
consumption and industrial purposes.

It is in this light that plans have also been far advanced with some preliminary arrangements to ensure government’s policy not to flare the associated gas is effectively pursued.

The Energy Minister, Dr. Joseph Oteng-Agyei told Citi Business the special focus towards the efficient exploitation of gas is under-lied in the rather latent advantage the gas has over the oil especially in commercial terms.

According to him, “the Oil may not be the entity that would turn this country around but the gas because the oil revenue are fix and before production starts, the people at the enactment of the acceptance of the petroleum agreement have the numbers are clearly defined”.

“We believe that if we manage the gas sites properly, that is what would turn down this country and that is why for quiet some time my deputies have been handled most of administration whiles I have been involved in the long term strategy of how we will use the oil and gas to drive the economy using all resources of the country”.

“Our first priority of the oil and gas is to use it for electricity”, he added.
