Queen Mothers from the Central Region have been mourning the late President John Evans Atta Mills at his Regimanuel residence off the Spintex road in Accra.
The female traditional rulers travelled to Accra on Thursday to console Dr.
Mrs.
Naadu Mills, the widow of the late President ahead of next week’s state burial of the nation’s former leader, who died in office last month.
During the visit, the Queen Mothers re-assured the former first lady that they will support her in whichever way possible to pull her through the devastation caused by the demise of the her husband, President Mills.
The Secretary to the Queen Mothers Association in the Central Region, Nana Adedua II told
Citi News, the association wants an immediate ceasefire over the standoff between government and members of the late President’s extended family over where to bury his remains.
She explained that “traditionally, he is to be buried in the Central Region but he was our President so the committee should sit down with the family members and plan the funeral and the burial.”
Nana Adedua II also backed President John Mahama’s nominating Kwesi Amissah Arthur as his Vice President.
“We are not being tribalistic, but we are very happy that a competent person has been nominated to be the Vice President.
We would have supported anybody he chose but thanks be to God he is from our land,” she stated.
