Contractors working with the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) are accusing managers of the fund of issuing cheques to their cronies to the neglect of the others.
Justice Ahinakwa, who speaks on behalf of the contractors, told
Citi News the eight months delay in payment is exposing contractors to huge debts.
This comes few days after the Administrator of the Fund, Sam Garba, mentioned that contractors who do shoddy job would be blacklisted.
According to Mr.
Ahinakwa, the contractors are aware that the monies have been made available to GETFumd for payments to be done but it has not been made available to them.
“The Finance Minister met us last Friday and he promised to release the money so we came to GETFund to collect our cheques, but the Financial Controller confirmed that they have received the money, but they are not going to issue our cheques because it is not enough to pay all of us,” he explained.
However, in a sharp rebuttal, the Public Relations Officer of the fund, Stephen Baffoe expressed surprise at the accusation and explained that payments are done on a first come, first serve basis.
The leadership of the contractors and GETFund are currently locked up in a meeting.
