Lt. Gen. Henry Smith is the Minister for Defense
The Ghana Navy on Friday, 29 June 2012 took delivery of two newly refitted naval vessels at a ceremony held at Germany.
This brings to seven the number of vessels acquired by the Ghana Navy in the last three years.
The two ships have been named after two distinguished warriors
Yaa Asantewaa and
Naa Gbewaa.
The Minister for Defense, Lt.
Gen Joseph Henry Smith (rtd), assisted by the Chief of the Naval Staff, rear Admiral M.
Quashie, received the warrior class vessels on behalf of Ghana.
In an address, Lt Gen Smith commended the Ghana Navy compliments of the ships, made up 14 officers and 56 ratings, for their hard work during their stay in Germany.
The naval personnel were in Germany for familiarization training on vessels.
He also congratulated the manufacturers for a good work done and asked the Chief of Naval Staff in particular to take very good care of the ships.
The vessels GNS Yaa Asantewaa and GNS Naa Gbewaa have since set sail for Ghana and are expected to arrive home in a few weeks time.
