The Prophetic Voices of Winneba last Friday won the Central Regional version of the regional choral competition organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) ahead of the National Choral Competition and the main African Choral Festival slated for March 9-11 2012.
The Winneba Prophetic Voices topped all after a highly competitive display from other choirs. They gave the audience at the Centre for National Culture auditorium some sterling performances amidst great tunes. They sang the compulsory song, Ephraim Amu’s “Yaanom Abibima” and two other songs.
In a related development, three other regions held their competitions to crown off the regional choral competitions. In the Volta region, the Melodious Voices of Volta Choir emerged champions whiles the Wa SDA Choir and the Methodist Youth Choir emerged champions of the Upper West and Eastern regions respectively. Winners received a cash prize of GH ¢1,000 whiles the first and second runner-up took home GH¢500 and GH¢250 respectively.
Now that the regional competitions are overall, all is set for the 10 regional champions to converge in Accra for the National Choral Competition scheduled for Feb 11 where the best three will represent Ghana at the African Choral Festival.
The African Choral Festival, the first of its kind on the continent will seek to bring choral groups from Africa and the rest of the world to sing aloud. The theme for the festival will be “Celebrating Culture through Choral music.”
