The Malta Guinness Street Dance Pan African Championships came to an epic grand finale Last Friday, 5th August 2011, at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre with Wapi-Wapi dance crew from Kenya being crowned the 2011 Malta Guinness Street Dance Pan African Champions.
Fans at the event were treated to a showcase of exceptional talent in Street Dance and also special acts from Ghana’s top hip life artistes 4X4, DCryme, and Trigmatic.
Exhibiting the very best in style and swagger to a panel of esteemed judges including, Dwayne Nosworthy of the United Dance Organization in the UK, Prudanse Maidou of Central African Republic and Mike Ross from East Africa, the Wapi-Wapi dance crew from Kenya snatched the trophy and celebrated in true Malta Guinness style by putting on a show stopping winning performance. Ghana placed second.
The Wapi Wapi dance crew did not only earn themselves the prestigious title of MGSD Pan African Champion, but also a mouthwatering prize of $36,000 which was presented to them by Mr Ekwunife Okoli, Managing Director of Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited.
He applauded all competing countries and commented, “Ghana is thrilled to have had the opportunity to host another successful Malta Guinness Street Dance Pan African Championships for the second year running. The event surpassed all expectations and the audience definitely enjoyed every moment of the Grand Finale. We say well done to our winners from Kenya”
Wapi-Wapi dance crew from Kenya came head-to-head with Africa’s best street dance crews from Gabon, Ivory Coast, Cameroun, Nigeria, Tanzania and Ghana.
The exciting Pan African championship will all be captured into a six part series which will be broadcast across the continent.
In attendance to grace the occasion included H.E. Musiliu Olatunde Obanikoro, Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana; Directors from the Ministry of Tourism and high level entertainment gurus across the continents.
