Students on government Scholarship in Turkey and the Netherlands are asking government to immediately send their allowances so they can focus on studies.
The students who made distress calls to
Citi Fm stated that funding for their scholarship programs as promised by government is not forthcoming.
Osman Mohammed President of the Students in Turkey has indicated that “for the past 15 months we have not received any money.”
According to him they started talking about their allowances since November and have not received anything yet.
He stated we need to cater for ourselves by buying books as well as transportation, they gave us allowances for accommodation only.
“We have been borrowing money to pay our way to and from school” he said.
He said they are not being helped because they were told to seek help from the embassy.
“Our problems keep increasing each day and school has re opened.
About two weeks ago when the president came to Turkey we wanted to raise the issue but we were told that our allowances are being cleared” he lamented.
The Ghanaian Students in a petition to the President called on him to address their plight.
