NHIA to roll out nationwide capitation in Feb.
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has indicated that the capitation programme, currently being piloted in the Ashanti Region, wil be reviewed in February.
This, according to the Authority, is to inform a nationwide implementation of the scheme.
The announcement follows questions raised by advocacy group, Asante Development Union, over the delay by the NHIA to replicate the capitation programme across the country.
In an interview with
Citi News the Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Sylvester Mensah however noted that the service providers will be engaged in a discussion to decide when the nationwide implementation will be carried out.
“We would have a broad stakeholder engagement with all providers to examine the operations of capitation over the one-year period.
The purpose of this engagement is to tie any lose ends that may show up and importantly, to inform the nationwide roll out.”
According to him, his outfit had engaged some external consultants who were experts in capitation to undertake “the monitoring, evaluation and review, so we are going to have a comprehensive report from the external consultants on the operations of capitation as a basis for discussion.”
Mr.
Mensah added that requisite mechanisms will be put in place after the review for the nationwide roll out.
