Security intensifies in Bawku
Security intensifies in Bawku Police in the Bawku municipality in the Upper East Region have intensified security in the area after a 26 year old man was shot and another injured.

The police have so far intensified their investigations to arrest the perpetrators of the crime as it seeks to defuse tension in the volatile area.

Speaking to Citi News, the Bawku Police Division Crime Officer Superintendant Adamu Seidu said the police are on top of the situation and will soon arrest the criminals.

“We are patrolling the area both vehicular and on foot. We have alerted our informants and we are gathering the pieces of information available so that we will be able to determine the cause of the shooting. So far as investigations are ongoing, we will definitely find out,” he stated.

“In Bawku, it is difficult to separate conflict and politics from the individual’s misunderstanding,” he added.

Meanwhile the Municipal Chief Executive of Bawku Musa Abdulai has dismissed suggestions that the situation is related to the ethnic conflicts in the area.

“It is unfortunate that some unidentified men shot the young man but we are working hard to get the perpetrators,” he stated.

The MCE further noted, “What happened has nothing to do with the Bawku ethnic conflict. It is a criminal act and we are working on bringing the perpetrators to book. It will be unfortunate if anyone tried to give any ethnic connotation to what happened in Bawku.”
