Officials of the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region on Monday spent some of their working hours outside trying to gain access to their offices which had been locked up by some angry youth.
The aggrieved young men from the Asokore Mampong and its environs stormed the premises of the Municipal assembly at about 7am and locked up the office in protest against what they describe as the denial of their share of the national cake.
According to them, since the Assembly was created in June 2012, the Municipal Assembly Director has been insensitive to the plights of the residents in the catchment area and has refused them employment opportunities.
The Assembly, which has not had any Chief Executive since its creation has the Coordinating Director whose name was only given as ‘Guru’ acting and the youth say he only employs helps non residents.
Attempts to break the padlock resulted in disagreement between the workers and the irate youth but the police arrived at the scene to calm tension and the offices were finally opened.
