Shot Upper West Regional Minister in stable condition
Shot Upper West Regional Minister in stable condition Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, who sustained gun-shot wounds in a shooting incident on the Fielmua-Gwollu road, has been flown to Accra for further treatment.

The Minister is currently on admission at 37 Military Hospital.

The Regional Minister was rushed to the Wa Regional Hospital after he was shot by unknown assailants near Kwalla on the Fielmua/ Gwollu road in the early hours Friday.

Alhaji Sulemana, who won the Sissala West seat in the recent Parliamentary election, was on a tour of the constituency to thank the people for voting for him when the incident occurred.

According to him, the attackers who were in military camouflage blocked the road before firing shots at the Minister’s convoy.

He said they escaped into the bush when the Minister’s body guard returned fire.

Mr. Kale Cesar, Deputy Upper West regional Minister described the assailants, who numbered eight as criminals from the Burkina Faso side of the border.

Highway Robberies in Northern Ghana


The major highways linking the three Northern Regions to the other and to Southern Ghana record a high number of highway robberies.

Robbers are known to block roads in the middle of the night and hold drivers hostage when they stop.

In some cases criminals reportedly boarded buses and forced drivers to stop in the middle of nowhere to rob passengers.
