The level of usage of the Gh-link shared ATMs has shot up by some 76 percent since it was launched some 3 weeks ago.
It has also recorded over a thousand transactions per week.
The new system allows bank customers to use each other’s ATM provided the bank is connected to the national switch called Gh-link.
Summary reports since the project started on a pilot basis in August and formally launched last month show, that there is an estimated transaction of over one thousand, two hundred a week.
The Chief Executive Officer of GHIPPS, Achie Hesse told
Citi Business News, he expects the numbers to even double by the end of this month.
“We went live without informing the general public and then we launched it.
Up till now, we still have not started advertising but the rate of usage has really baffled us.”
According to him, the high recorded usage is indicative that “the concept of having the possibility of using any ATM you come across as opposed to looking for your bank’s only ATM is actually a real one and there is a demand for that service in the country.”
Mr.
Hesse added that his outfit will from next week advertise the service to the general public and “it’s our anticipation that that figure is going to double over the coming weeks.”
Barclays Bank is the latest bank to have joined the existing 14 other banks.
The ATM of Zenith Bank according to the report is the most used by customers of other banks, recording over 2,700 transactions.
