Ghana Elections: Voting to continue on Saturday - EC The Electoral Commission has declared that the 2012 general elections have been adjourned to Saturday, December 8, 2012.

This is to enable persons who were unable to cast their ballot due to the faulty verification devices to vote.

Speaking to Citi News, the Principal Public Relations Officer of the EC, Sylvia Annor explained that directive applied to polling stations where the biometric verification of voters could not be completed and where electoral materials arrived very late.

“Polling will continue tomorrow, Saturday, 8th December to give the opportunity to the affected persons who vote.”

She added that all Presiding officers have been instructed to arrange with the Police to take custody of all the ballot boxes and electoral materials to be kept at the Police Station.

According to Madam Annor, persons who are still queued up to vote can vote if the verification machines at the centers are working.


Below is a statement from the Electoral Commission

ADJOURNMENT OF POLL AT POLLING STATIONS WHERE BIOMETRIC VERIFICATION OF VOTERS COULD NOT BE COMPLETED.

The Electoral Commission directs as follows;

(1) At polling stations where the biometric verification of voters could not be completed and as a result some voters in the queue could not be processed to vote,

(2) Where election materials arrived very late that all the voters in the queue could not be processed to vote,polling should continue tomorrow, Saturday 8th December, 2012 to give the opportunity to the affected persons to vote.

Presiding Officers should arrange with the police for the safe custody of all ballot boxes and election materials.
