A member of the New Patriotic Party and Editor for the Daily Searchlight newspaper, Ken Kurankye has called for all article 71 office holders to be migrated unto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).
This comes on the back of payment hikes in the salaries of Parliamentarians, Ministers, Deputy Ministers as well as the President and the Vice President.
According to Mr.
Kurankye, spending such huge amount of the country’s resources in salary payments for government officials is unwise as majority of Ghanaians continue to suffer under harsh economic conditions.
He opined that ‘’I think and believe that article 71 officers holders should be collapsed into the general public system so that everybody comes unto the Single Spine; including the President.
Everybody should be on the Single Spine.’’
‘’I don’t the work of the Member of Parliament is more important of the head master of a school.
I do not believe so.
I believe that if we can pay the MP GH ₡7000, then we should also pay the head master GH ₡ 7000.
This is abuse and day light robbery,’’ he concluded.
But President John Mahama has ordered the Finance Minister to withhold authorization for payment of any new emoluments for the executive.
He also ordered the legislature has also been to consider a review of the emoluments approved for the Executive arm of government.
