I am not abusing incumbency - Ofosu-Ampofo The Minister of Local Government and Rural development, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has denied using incumbency to his advantage.

The aspiring Member of Parliament for Tema West has been cited in a report by the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) for abuse of incumbency.

According to the report, the Local government Minister used a government platform for the commissioning of streets lights to solicit for votes ahead of the December general elections.

But speaking at his campaign launch in Tema community 2 on Friday, Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo stated that his interventions to solve pertinent problems in the area cannot be described as an abuse of incumbency.

He said: “I want to send a clear message to the Ghana Integrity Initiative that the people of Tema West have security problem. One of the major challenges facing Tema West is security. Today, because of darkness, armed robbery is on the increase.”

He added that “I will not look at incumbency and allow robbers to rob us of our properties. I will provide the streetlights as I have provided. We have provided street lights for Adjei Kojo, Klagon, Baatsona, Lashibi, Sakumono and the street lights provision will go on unabated.”
