Lamuel Quashie Martey is 2012 best farmer Lamuel Quashie Martey, owner of Mannah Farms Limited in Accra, has been adjudged the 2012 National Best Farmer.

He received an ADB fully furnished three-bedroom house on a litigation free land at a location of his or her choice, a pick-up vehicle and a diplomatic passport as his prize.

A total of 74 farmers and fishers were honoured for their exceptional contribution to the economy.

Addressing the gathering at the celebration, the 2012 best farmer said he is encouraged by the recognition.

“I want to dedicate this award to my mum, who throughout her life has worked as a farmer and has preserved the pace for us to come and take over. I want to challenge all the young ones; the young men who are energetic like me, we shouldn’t wait to run out of energy before we think of going into farming. Please come and let us move agric to a different height,” he said.

The 28th National Farmers Day Celebration was held in Abokobi in the Ga East municipality of the Greater Accra region.

It was themed: “Grow more food: strengthening farmer based organizations for market place bargaining power.”
