Arabic language needs more recognition - Islamic scholar
Arabic language needs more recognition - Islamic scholar The Tamale Islamic Scholars Association is demanding for more recognition and support for the teaching and learning of the Arabic language under an Akufo-Addo-led government.

According to the spokesperson for the group, Shiekh Basid Issah Alhassan, government should encourage the study of Arabic just as other foreign languages to empower the youth to exploit the abundant opportunities of being multi-lingual.

Speaking at a meeting with the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, Shiekh Alhassan noted that the Arabic language has equal standing on the international scene just as English and French.

He said: “English is not a Ghanaian language, French is not a Ghanaian language but this language has been painfully relegated to the background, so much so that people, who are ill-informed, misinformed or misguided, still refer to people who have done their studies in the Arabic language as illiterates.”
