Some communities in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday witnessed a massive cleanup exercises embarked upon by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in collaboration with the Zoom Alliance.
Staff of the Zoom Alliance collected heaps of garbage and desilted chocked gutters in areas including Adabraka, Okai Koi South, Dangbe west, Ablekuma south and Madina Babayara.
The nationwide exercise is expected to take place every Saturday till Ghana meets her Millennium development goal on environmental cleanliness.
Addressing the media, Operations Manager of Zoom Alliance, Mr.
Lawrence Laryea said the measure formed part of President John Mahama’s agenda to ensure a clean Ghana under the Better Ghana agenda.
It will be recalled that on the orders of President Mahama, the National Sanitation Taskforce was launched under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to improve sanitation through a series of initiatives over the next three months.
The Taskforce is meant to promote waste disposal and effective sanitation practices needed to get rid of cholera, typhoid and malaria.
The initiative will also focus on logistical problems to enable many households afford waste collection bins.
The Taskforce is expected to donate about 2000 bins to private waste collection companies.
