Former President Jerry John Rawlings
The spokesperson for former President Jerry Rawlings, Kofi Adams, has revealed that his boss has always supported the choice of John Dramani Mahama as running mate to late President John Mills.
This is contrary to speculations in the public domain that the former president preferred Betty Mould Iddrisu to John Mahama in the lead up to the decision being made.
Speaking on Citi Fm’s
news and current affairs program, Inside Politics
Adams stated that the claims about lack of support for the Mahama candidacy are unfounded.
He said, “there are persons who have put out there that he [Rawlings] wasn't supportive of our current president John Dramani Mahama being nominated as running mate… that is false.
“He even insisted when he was having discussions with the Professor before the congress, that look, when you get elected as flagbearer, he was of the opinion that the consultative process should be so short and immediate that if possible his Excellency John Dramani Mahama be announced at the congress grounds immediately as the running mate."
He added: “The flagbearer then who was also the candidate aspiring to be flagbearer said it wasn’t going to be possible, then he said even if that would not be possible to be done on the congress grounds then it must be done early and he kept asking that name John, name John, name John because if you don’t other considerations would come in.”
