$75, 000 casket will turn Mills in his grave – Totobi-Kwakye
$75, 000 casket will turn Mills in his grave – Totobi-Kwakye The chairman of the President Mills Funeral Planning Committee, Kofi Totobi-Kwakye, has rubbished media reports that the casket for the late president will cost US$75, 000, saying that will force President Mills to “turn in his grave if we make any attempt to spend that kind of money.”

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Mr. Totobi-Kwakye said his research reveals that caskets do not cost that much hence such reports should be treated with disdain.

“I have done some research on the internet and never came across any casket that comes close to US$75, 000. In any case President Mills will turn in his grave if we make any attempt to spend that kind of money,” he said.

“He will resurrect the next day and tell us his peace of mind. He will be upset if we spend any large amount of money to organize this funeral.”

Mr. Totobi-Kwakye also denied speculations that the cost of the funeral for the late president has been pegged at GhC 40 million, describing them as “a figment of someone’s imagination.”

He said: “You don’t budget for funeral at the beginning of the year and when you are confronted with it you look at how things will shape,” he stated. “We have made a conscious point that as much as possible, we feel that the donations that are coming will be sufficient to pay for the cost of the funeral.”

“If it doesn’t, we’ll let you know what the cost is. But I can assure you that the GHC 40 million is a figment of someone’s imagination and wants to cause confusion.”

President Mills will be buried on Friday, August 10.
