No 30% contracts for NPP, contracts are given on merit – Alhaji Sulemana
No 30% contracts for NPP, contracts are given on merit – Alhaji Sulemana The Minister-designate for Roads and Highways; Alhaji Sulemana has rubbished suggestions that 30 percent of contracts be awarded to contractors who belong to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

General Overseer of the Lighthouse Chapel International; Dag Heward-Mills had earlier suggested that government should give at least 30 per cent of all contracts to the opposition party’s contractors.

However, answering a question from the MP for Tamale South Haruna Iddrisu on the suggestion made by the pastor during his vetting on Friday, Alhai Sulemana said it was a non-starter.

He said contracts will be awarded to competent and qualified contractors who win on merit.

“What the Reverend said is a very unfortunate statement from a man of his caliber; and I think that there is a procurement law in this country. And every average Ghanaian knows that contracts are not shared like groundnut.”

“The contracts are given out through a procurement process and the procurement process does not label contractors. No contractor is asked to label your contract document, there is a process and contracts are won on merit irrespective of which party you belong to.”

“I don’t think that in the past contracts are given to party people; contracts are given out on merit”, he reiterated.
