An assembly member aspirant of the Egu Electoral Area in the Wa municipality in the Upper West Region has been shot dead.
[contextly_sidebar id=”3pMnOiwACNiu85tYpV4y3BP4CDVYEzIs”]Mr. Salia Robert, one of the only two aspirants was killed when he was returning to Wa after campaigning.
The exact time and perpetrators of the act are yet to be found by the Police.
However Citi News sources at the Police Command said the 48 year old teacher of the St. Cecilia Catholic Junior High School, was found dead with several gun shot wounds at about 8:30pm on Wednesday, by one Sadik Yakubu.
The motor bike of the the deceased was also taken away by the assailants.
Peter K Dery, grandfather of the deceased, told Citi News the family was shocked by the incident but were confident the Police will apprehend the perpetrators.
“We don’t want to apportion blame for now. We believe the police will do a great work to unravel the cause of his death,” Peter K Dery said.
Meanwhile the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Upper West regional hospital morgue pending Police investigations.
In a related development, the Supreme Court has directed the Electoral Commission [EC] to call off the much publicized District Assembly elections which was scheduled for March 3, 2015.
The EC was dragged to court by an aspiring Assembly man, Benjamin Eyi Mensah, represented by lawyer Alex Afenyo Markin.
According to Eyi Mensah, a fisherman, he was denied an opportunity to file his nomination despite meeting all conditions to contest but the EC closed nominations before the maturation of the Constitutional Instrument (CI) 85.
