President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in five new justices to the Court of Appeal admonishing them to fairly dispense justice.
President Mahama told the judges that as repositories of justice delivery, it is incumbent on them to be sober in the discharge of their duties without fear or favour.
He said, “As justices of the Superior Court you are required to be sober, in terms of temperaments and delivery of justice. Your first obligation is to dispense justice fairly to all persons.
He further asked them to be weary of individuals who in some instances, seek to manipulate or corrupt the judiciary for their parochial gains.
President Mahama who pledged governments support to the judiciary at all times, also called on them to use their work to boost investor confidence in the county.
“Ghana has become a leading destination for investment. One of the attractions for this said to be the quality of our judicial system. While confidence in our judiciary is high, there are few instances where foreign investors or business people have complained of a manipulation of our security and justice system by locals who either have defrauded them or have litigation with them,” he stated adding that “It is my hope that we will pay attention to these in order that we continue to maintain Ghana as an attractive investment destination,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the new justices, Justice Lawrence Mensah pledged to work hard to ensure Justice delivery in the country is enhanced.
He thanked the president “for the confidence imposed in us in appointing us to our new office as court of appeal judges.”
“We want to assure his Excellency that we shall perform our duties without fear or favour, affection or ill role and that we shall with due diligence, industry, condole and above all integrity sit on our cases in a way that will help the social, economic, political and even cultural developments of this country,” he added.
The rest of the justices sworn in are Justice Henry Kwofie, Justice Angelina Domakyaareh, Justice Mabel Agyemang and Justice Gbiel Suurbaareh.
