Hundreds of residents in the South Tongue District in the Volta Region are counting their losses after a devastating rainstorm that occured in the region last weekend.
The storm reportedly destroyed homes and some schools in the area.
Speaking to Citi News, the Headteacher of Agbakorpe RC primary school, one of the affected schools, Augustine Dutorgbe said the storm has rendered their classrooms roofless.
“In the meantime, we just have a multiple class to maintain children in the block B as teaching and learning goes on and we are waiting for philanthropists from different areas to come and assist to roof our classrooms.”
Meanwhile the District Chief Executive, of the area, Samuel Mawuko Eworyi has assured residents that efforts will be put in place to re-roof the classrooms blocks to get the pupils back to school.
He said students have been given relief items to alleviate the situation.
“As soon as possible we are going to get the buildings re roofed and once it is re roofed we will get the students back to the classrooms so teaching is not affected…”
