The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan has underscored the importance of professionalism of personnel of the Ghana Police Service in the international arena.
The IGP also said that, due to the high reputation of Police Officers from Ghana, the United Nations has requested for Formed Police Unit (FPU) from Ghana to be deployed to UN Mission in South Sudan.
[contextly_sidebar id=”A8ClkP55grB36QNlB8oFiAouISOl41IV”]Mr. Alhassan said this, when he inspected the human resource, logistics and equipment of the FPU, as they round up their preparation for deployment by the end of the year.
He added that “due to our reputation outside, we don’t want to compromise on the standards.”
On his part, the Director-General of Operation, COP/Mr. John Kudalor advised the personnel of the FPU to take very good care of both their personal and contingent equipment.
He also said that the Ghana Police Service cannot afford to lower standard set by our fore- bears.
This is the first time the Service is going to deploy Formed Police Unit to any UN Mission.
The FPU, unlike the usual contingents deployed by the Service, is more concerned with public order management, and therefore has a more coercive capacity.
