A former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Betty Mould Iddrisu, has expressed concern about the surge in piracy in Ghana.
According to Betty Mould Iddrisu the gradual collapse of the textile industry, once a leader in Ghana’s industrial sector is an example of the effects of dumping and piracy.
She said Ghana must design a mechanism for criminal enforcement of intellectual property laws to create a competitive edge for Ghanaians.
Speaking to Citi Business at the launch of the intellectual property network, she said if we don’t stop piracy now, Ghana will continue to suffer economic losses.
“It’s not only pirated textile, it’s pirated music, it’s pirated sound recordings, it’s pirated t-shirts, it’s pirated everything and if we don’t wake and do something about it, our own people will not develop their own work that we can proudly say this is a Ghanaian local work,” she said.
