Some Ghanaian students participated in the annual global entrepreneurship World Cup, organized by Enactus International in Beijing, China.
Enactus is an international organization that connects student, academic and business leaders through entrepreneurial-based projects that empower people to transform opportunities into real, sustainable progress for themselves and their communities.
Led by the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Ras Mubarak, the team from Ghana was represented by students from the University of Ghana who had earlier defeated KNUST, Methodist University, Accra Poly, Ho Poly, UPSA, and UCOMS to represent the nation in the international competition.
In all, 34 countries participated in this year’s event in Beijing, which opened on October 22, 2014.
The country leader for Enactus Ghana, Mr Baba Sayuti, was optimistic Ghana will do better at next year’s competition to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
He also encouraged youth in tertiary institutions to come up with innovative ideas and programs that will help elevate communities out of poverty.
For his part, Mr Ras Mubarak said the youth are living in a world that provides an opportunity to connect, collaborate and learn from other countries, hence a greater need for public and private institutions to support youth development initiatives in Ghana.
KPMG, the Chinese Embassy in Ghana and the National Youth Authority were the sponsors of Ghana’s team.
The team also after the programme paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Anani Demuyakor, at the Ghana Embassy in Beijing, to brief him about the performance of the team at the entrepreneurship World Cup.
